The Image of the 11th Iran Parliamentary Elections in the Discourse of Iran International TV Channel

Election is the arena of the nation Presence to determine its own destiny. Democracy is a form of government in which the majority of the people govern within the framework of the law and has emerged in various forms in different societies. Meanwhile, the media is campaigning in the election arena by producing content to orient the electorate based on its political and ideological model. Iran International TV Channel is one of the media outlets that has covered news in line with the policy of "reducing public participation in elections" through its website during the 11th Iran parliamentary elections. By highlighting its Desirable themes in news texts and Imagination about different people and events, this media has tried to represent the events and interpret them in its intended semantic frameworks. In this article, all the news texts related to the elections on the Iran International website, which were published between January 21 and February 29, 2020, have been studied. Then, using discourse analysis and MAXQDA software, considering the news context and social developments in the shadow of semantic conflicts, the discourse of the mentioned media was determined. Linguistic and non-linguistic actions of discoursical subjects were included in analyzes. "Islamic Republic", "People", "Elections" and "Corona" are the constructive signs of this discourse and the nodal point is "boycott of elections". The result of the elections indicates the hegemony of this discourse and its success in establishing its semantic system and creating a general consensus.
