Evaluation of knowledge of Midwifery students to Early Childhood Caries

Midwifery students can play an important role in promoting oral health of mothers and infants and preventing early childhood caries. The aim of this study was to investigate the knowledge of a group of midwifery students about early childhood caries.Materials &  In this cross-sectional study, all students in the last two years of midwifery (165 students) in spring 2020 were studied. The questionnaire had 21 questions. Scores from 0 to 10.5 were given a poor grade, from 10.5 to 15.75 a medium grade and from 15.75 to 21 a good grade. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 21 software and independent t-test and Pearson correlation coefficient and the significance level was considered 0.05. The mean scores in the areas of aetiology, prevention, and total were 5.58 74 1.74, 5.27 92 1.92 and 10.86 19 3.19, respectively, and were moderate. The relationship between the two domains was significant and positive (P = 0.0001). Students 'knowledge about early childhood caries is moderate and students' educational needs to play their role in promoting children's dental health are probably less considered. It is better to include in their courses a course entitled "Early childhood caries.
