The Role of Difficulty in Emotion Regulation and Negative Repetitive Thoughts in Predicting the Mental Health of NAJA Employees (Case study of Tehran City)

Abstract:
Background and Aim

Mental health is an important part of the overall concept of health including the ability to communicate positively with others, how to adapt to the environment, and how to control stress in daily life when faced with critical situations. Therefore, the study aimed to investigate the role of difficulty in emotion regulation and negative repetitive thoughts in predicting the mental health of NAJA employees.

Methods

The present study is a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population included the employees of the police force of Tehran city Who were employed in 2021, and 203 people were selected from them by the available sampling method. Gertz and Roemer's emotion regulation difficulty questionnaire (2004), McEvoy et al.'s repetitive negative thoughts questionnaire (2010), and Goldberg and Hiller's mental health questionnaire (1979) were used to collect data. Data analysis was done using SPSS version 23 statistical software.

Results

The results showed that there is a correlation of 0.58 and 0.64 between the overall score of difficulty in emotions regulating and negative repetitive thoughts with mental health. Also, the results of regression coefficient analysis show that the overall score of difficulty in emotion regulation is 0.54 and the total score of negative repetitive thoughts is 0.60 can predict mental health changes. components difficult in emotion regulating and repetitive negative thoughts can all predict 56% of mental health changes, so the regression model is significant (P<0.001).

Conclusion

It can be concluded that difficulty in emotion regulating and negative recurring thoughts can threaten the mental health of NAJA employees, Therefore, with the help of skills related to proper emotion regulation and management of unhealthy thoughts and emotions, many mental health threats can be avoided.
