The Effect of Business Intelligence on Firm Performance by Considering the Mediating Role of Knowledge Sharing, Organizational Innovation and Competitive Advantage

Abstract:
Purpose

This study analyzes the effect of business intelligence on firm performance by considering the mediating role of knowledge sharing, organizational innovation, and competitive advantage.

Methodology

The following research is applied research. Since this study examines the relationship between several variables, for example, the relationship between business intelligence variables on firm performance, and it does not manipulate these variables, it is descriptive correlational research. The statistical population of this research is small and medium entrepreneurs in Tehran province. The method of data collection is a questionnaire. The number of items in the questionnaire is 42, the sample size of which is 202 questionnaires, and all of them have been completed rightly. Structural equation modeling and SPSS and PLS 3 software were used to analyze the data.

Findings

This research has 7 hypotheses, 5 hypotheses of the research have been confirmed and the findings indicate that business intelligence has an impact on the sharing of competitive knowledge and firm performance. This shows that managers should pay attention to the implementation of business intelligence in their organization to enhance their performance and increase their ability to respond to external risks and challenges. The findings of this study also show that knowledge sharing impacts competitive advantage and finally, competitive advantage impacts firm performance.

Originality/Value:

 The results of this study showed that the use of business intelligence in the organization and small and medium entrepreneurship will lead to increased performance, competitive advantage, and increased knowledge sharing. This research can help organizations to use business intelligence in their activities in a more specialized way.
