Abstract:

Gorgan city with a very rich history and several thousand years of self-inherited Qajar architecture is one of the cities that is valuable in terms of morphological characteristics of IranianIslamic urban planning and should be considered by designers and urban planners. It seems that despite the rich and valuable historical culture and principles in the field of architecture and urban planning in this city, today's conditions indicate weakness, inefficiency and lack of identity. Lack of a suitable model in accordance with Iranian-Islamic urban planning approaches is one of the most important issues in Gorgan today. This issue finds a special manifestation in the destruction of historical and urban contexts,so that the architecture and urban planning of the past is forgotten and its identity is destroyed in the hands of modern architecture.The purpose of this study is to extract the morphological components of Iranian-Islamic citiesfrom the point of view of experts and to compare the old and new contexts in Gorgan from thisperspective.The purpose of this research is applied, which is a descriptive-analytical research problem. First,theoretical data on morphological components, quality of urban spaces, Iranian urban components andtheoretical issues are collected from the views of thinkers and theorists in order to extract selected criteriathrough documentary and library studies. To be.The research findings indicate that four main components and eight sub-components can bedetermined for the native architecture and urban planning of Gorgan.In terms of morphology, the ancient neighborhoods of Gorgan have not undergone extensivechanges in the structure of the Iranian-Islamic city of Gorgan, and valuable components of IranianIslamic urbanism are fully evident in them, but new constructions in ancient neighborhoods are far fromIranian-Islamic It has become urban.
