Prediction of procrastination behavior in students based on components of School Connection and decision making styles

Abstract:

Procrastination means postponing of works or tendency of doing it at final times. This research was conducted to study the relationship between the procrastination behaviors of high school boy student and school connection and decision making styles. The research population consists of theoretical secondary school students in the district 1 of Education Department of Rasht. From this society, five male schools were selected as cluster sampling with a population of 930 people. From this population in the next stage, according to the distribution of students in the first to fourth grades, in total a sample of 252 high school students who were studying in public schools were selected by stratified sampling. Method The sample consisted of 252 students, which were selected through cluster random sampling method and then stratified sampling method from schools of Rasht. The instrumentals employed in the study were Procrastination questionnaire, and school connection questionnaire and decision making styles questionnaire. Data was analyzed by multiple regression (stepwise) method. The results showed that engagement to school, belonging to school and rational decision making style were important predictive factors of procrastination behaviors. In addition, it was found that 36% of the variance of procrastination was accounted by linear combination of engagement to school, belonging to school and rational decision making style. Also findings show that the connection to school is the strongest predictor of procrastination. Avoidance conditioning is the cause by which engagement and belonging to school can be interpreted. Also ability of cognitive emotional regulation related to rational decision making is explainer of relationship between this style and nonprocrastination.
