Causal Explanation of the Meaning of Life based on Personality Traits, Implicit Beliefs of Intelligence and Adaptability

Abstract:
Introduction

The aim of this study was to investigate the mediating role of adaptability in the relationship between personality traits and implicit beliefs of intelligence with the meaning of life.

Method

This correlational research is presented in the form of structural equation model. The research population included high school students in Shiraz. From the mentioned statistical population, 315 female (170) and male (145) students of 10th and 11th grade of high school in the academic year of 2019-2020 were examined by accidental sampling method. They are responded the Estger et al Meaning of Life Questionnaire, the Martin et al Adaptability Scale,  the Abdel Fattah and Yates Implicit Beliefs Intelligence Scale, and the Costa and McCurry Neo Personality Inventory.

Results

In the findings section, it was found that personality traits affect the meaning of life through adaptability. In addition, it was shown that the belief in the incremental nature of intelligence has a significant effect on the meaning of life through adaptability.

Conclusion

When special attention is paid to personality traits, implicit beliefs of intelligence in educational institutions, people's adaptation increases and prepares them for success in various aspects of life, especially the meaning of life.
