Psychological, Social and Economical Causes of Divorce among Divorce Applicants at Family Courts of Tehran, Iran, in 2007

Introduction & One of the important social problems that are discussable in our society and most societies is divorce. A set of factors is effective on the decision making of couples on separation and divorce from each other. The present study was to determine the psychological, social and economical causes of divorce among divorce applicants at family courts of Tehran, Iran. This was a descriptive study. 200 couples who had referred for presentation divorce petition to family’s courts in Tehran, and had the features of quota non-random sampling were selected and asked to complete the relevant questionnaire. In order to increase the construct validity of the questionnaire, 15 paired interviews were obtained. After determination of the tools formal and content validity, internal consistency reliability was determined. The collected data was analyzed by the SPSS software. The results showed that men and women's views in areas of psychological, social and economic factors of divorce were different (p<0/001). The subjects majority view in psychological areas lacked understanding in decision-making with a mean of 78±1.04. Regarding social causes, the cultural differences with husband with a mean of 57. 6 ±1.22 and divorce because of insufficient earnings with a mean of 36 ±1.22 was the most important factor. Regarding results of interviews with couples, interviews data dimensions, factors such as the internet, satellite channels, mobile, technology, and application of life abroad by couples, wife's long absence due to leaving the country, emigration and traveling abroad did not have significant influence on the request of divorces. The result of research showed that the psychological factor is the prominent factor among divorce factor, social and economical factors are in second place.
