Nurses Viewpoints on Patient Education Inhibitory Factors and Facilitators in Sanandaj, Iran, 2007

Introduction&
Objective
Patient education is one of the important tasks which nurses in clinics benefit from and leads to many positive results. Patient education leads to reduction of costs, length of hospital stay, patient anxiety, and increases satisfaction of health care. This study aimed to determine the viewpoints of nurses about patient education, preventive and inhibitory factors and facilitators of Sanandaj.
Materials and Methods
In this descriptive - analytical study, viewpoints of 155 nurses in teaching hospitals in Sanandaj on barriers and facilitating factors, patient education were collected in2007. The data gathering tool was a self-made questionnaire made by researcher to collect perspectives of nurses (14 questions) and at the barriers and facilitating factors, patient education (10 questions each), respectively. For analyzing the collected data, the researcher used the SPSS version 14 software using the Likert Scale.
Results
The majority of the nurses were in favor of patient education. The most critical component to the left with positive patient education (94.7%) were: nurse's roles is patient education, patient education in improving the health level plays a role in increasing life expectancy, and how the Nurse communicates with patient, and also acceptance of the patient education were effective. Inhibitory factors of patient education due to lack of knowledge and skills (71.6%), lack of manpower(70.9%), time(70.1),and lack of physical fitness (66.4%) and mental patients education at the time mentioned. facilitate factors were the patient's interest in education and patient participation in planning (78/6%) and implementing training trainers interested in understanding the learning needs of patients(80.6%), despite an appropriate location(57.2%),and considering the special points for performing patient education identified at the time of evaluation(64.7%).
Conclusion
According to research findings, benefits of patient education is necessary to remove the barriers and provide facilities needed to allow the executive to provide the necessary manpower and in-service education courses causing nurses to have more involvement in their
