Substantial Movement Theory and Problem of Matter and Form

Message:
Abstract:
The nature of movement is one of the issues discussed by philosophers and has been rejected and confirmed, since ancient times. The philosophers who lived before Mulla sadra, limited Movement to four categories: Quantity, Quality, Position and Where, but sadra expands these categories and indicates substantial movement and existence of movement in substance. By using strong reasons, he confirms that no corporeal being is static. This paper examines the relationship between substantial movement and the problem of matter and form from Sadra's viewpoint; although, he has not explicitly indicated this, but we can infer it from his basis. Also, it will be shown that without assuming movement in bodies, we cannot relate matter and form to anything or vice versa; Of course the important point here is that: when we say movement flows in substance, in what it exists? Does it exist in matter or form or both? At the end of the discussion it will be proved that in fact movement exists in both. In addition, during the discussions references are made to some of the problems which have been solved by substantial movement, including the important topic of the relation between "Contingent" and “Pre-eternal" and "corporeal contingency".
