Studying of Medical Devices Management with Usability Approaches among Tehran University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospitals

Medical devices have important role in patients’ diagnosis, treatment, education and rehabilitation. Because of undesirable situation in usability, fixing and maintaining of medical devices, essential modifications and reprocessing was conducted in medical devices management field. This study aimed at determination of medical devices management with criteria evaluation and usability approaches with the purpose of reprocessing in 2012-2013. This descriptive study was performed as a cross sectional one among eight generals teaching hospital of Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The study questionnaire was a self-designed check list about medical devices management evaluation and Nielsen questionnaire about devices usability which completed by head nurses of CCU, ICU, OR wards with supervising medical devices staff of each hospital in 56 wards and collected data was analyzed by SPSS software. The assessed wards didn’t have required situation in view point of medical devices management. There were not desirable state about devices usability and using informational electronic system in these hospitals. Study results specially recommended the necessity of more users’ knowledge achievement in usability field, evaluation methods and appropriate communication in using the criteria faced to medical devices manufacture persons, administrators and healthcare policy makers’ attention about reprocessing concepts toward selection and purchasing devices.
