Investigating the effect of personality traits on academic procrastination in Shiraz University students

Abstract:
The aim of this study was investigating the effect of big five personality factors on academic procrastination in a group of Shiraz University students. The sample comprised of 550 students (350 girls and 200 boys) from different university subjects in ten faculties of Shiraz University. These students, who were selected via a combined sampling method of cluster and stratified sampling procedures with class as sampling unit, completed two instruments including NE0 Five-Factor Inventory, and Academic Procrastination Scale. Regression analysis procedure was used for analyzing the data. Findings confirmed validity and reliability of the scales. Results of regression analysis showed that Neuroticism predicts academic procrastination directly and positively, conscientiousness predicts academic procrastination directly and negatively. Finally, the findings are discussed with regard to the research literature. Implications, Applications, and limitations are pointed out.
