From Platonic Epistemology to media Epistemology Criticisms of Media Epistemology from Feminism, Postcolonial and Postmodern Views

This paper reviews the evolution of epistemological views in the West and the Islamic epistemology, history and nature of the epistemology. Considering the important role of the mass media in understanding the existence and its relations, raises the concept of media epistemology, which means understanding the world and human life through the mass media. In the following, criticizes media epistemology from Feminism, Postcolonial and Postmodern Views. Media representation of women and gender stereotyping in mss media are some of feminist’s critiques. Theorizing cultural imperialism, mental war and orientalism are the critiques of postcolonial school about western media epistemology. In postmodern school, Baudrillard’s theory about simulation and hyperreality and other concepts like value-sign, pseudo-event and the society of the spectacle refers to media epistemology’s criticism.
