Prevalence of Underlying Health Threatening Factors in Diabetic Patients in Zahedan City

Diabetes is one of the chronic and most common metabolic diseases in humans and is closely related to many debilitating diseases. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases in diabetic patients in Zahedan.

This descriptive study was performed on 270 patients referred to the Diabetes Clinic of Zahedan in an easy and accessible method in 2017-2017. Measurement indicators include four checklists a) Record the latest laboratory test information in the patient file, b) Researcher-made checklist to collect demographic information based on the objectives of the study c) Cigarette and alcohol consumption checklist and a short questionnaire International physical activity was IPAQ. Data were processed using SPSS-v19 software and descriptive statistics.

According to the results, most of the patients were women (75.2%) in the age range of 40 to 60 years. 40.7% of patients were illiterate. Most of the subjects (93.3%) had type 2 diabetes. 28 (10.3%) patients were smokers or hubble-bubble users and 11 (4.0%) were drug (opiate) users. 40 patients (14.8%) had blood pressure higher than 140 mm Hg. None of them had a history of alcohol consumption.

The findings showed that health threatening factors are increasing in diabetic patients. Therefore, it is necessary to intervene to change the lifestyle. Since the chronic problems of diabetes can be prevented and treated, the need for proper education and improving patientschr('39') knowledge about the disease and its complications, along with the necessary care and screening with more accuracy and early diagnosis of diabetes are recommended.
