Designing a framework and validating tool for evaluating the educational quality of serious police games as modern e-social learning environments

Abstract:
Background and objective

 In recent decades, along with the growth of the quantity of "serious game", its quality has also been considered by investors, researchers, developers. The purpose of this research is to design a framework and validation tool for evaluating the educational quality of serious police games as modern e-social learning environments.

Methods

 This research was conducted with a mixed approach and meta-synthesis method. Based on this, 5805 documents were identified during the years 1995-2022, and finally 29 articles were selected for analysis. By analyzing these articles, the dimensions, indicators and basic components were extracted, which became an evaluation tool by thematic analysis. First, the content validity of this tool was obtained by purposive sampling with the participation of 30 experts. Then, for the validity of the structures, a sample equal to the community was assumed, and the tool was sent to the members of the National Computer Games Foundation, and 331 people participated in completing the tool. Finally, the data were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis.

Findings

 The findings of first and second order factor analysis confirmed all dimensions, indicators and components of the tool with a factor load (above 0.3) and a significant coefficient (above 1.96). Therefore, this meta-synthesis led to the design of the framework and the validation of the educational quality evaluation tool of serious police games as modern e-social learning environments with 4 dimensions, 25 indicators and 138 components.

Results

 As a result, the proposed framework and tool can be used by investors, researchers and developers of serious police games and other areas to develop serious games with the desired educational quality.
