Comparison between the effect of work environment on mental health of physicians and nurses in Emergency departments and other departments of Mashhad university hospitals

Mental health in physicians and nurses has a great importance and it has been investigated by many studies. prevention and early diagnosis of these disorders are important specially in emergency department and other sections of hospitals so we decide to determinedeffect of work environment on mental health of physicians and nurses work in Mashhad university hospitals. This study is a cross – sectional study in 2009-2010, 107 physicians and nurses who work in Mashhad university hospitalsin emergency and non emergency department with accessible non random samplingparticipated in this study.it has been done with special questionnaire GHQ(General Health Questionnaire), WES(Work Environment Scale), PCL-C (PTSD Checklist – Civilian version) and demographic questionnaire, data has been analyzed with SPSS 11.5, t-test, Mann Whitney U and Chi-square with p<0.05. There are not any significant relationship between average of GHQ and PCL-C score of two group with p= 0.680, p=0.372 but emergency department's physicians and nurses have more trauma(p= 0.008) in work place. comparison of WES items between two group have not significant difference. Working in emergency department with more occupational trauma, had not negative effect on mental health.
